Chap. 0037 An Act providing for a five day work week for members of the police department of the town of nahant. Be it enacted, etc., as follows: Section 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of general or special law, all members of the police department of the town of Nahant shall be excused from duty for two days out of every seven without loss of pay. A member so excused shall be exempt from duty and from attendance at a police station or other place, but otherwise shall be subject to all laws, rules and regulations relating to members of the department. The chief of the police department or the board of selectmen of said town, in case of any public emergency, or of any unusual demand for the services of the police, I may prevent any member of the department from taking the days off at the time when he is entitled thereto, provided that such days off shall be granted to him as soon thereafter as is practicable. Section 2. This act shall be submitted to the registered voters of the town of Nahant for acceptance at the annual town election in the year nineteen hundred and fifty-three in j the form of the following question which shall be placed on the official ballot to be used in said town at said election: - "Shall an act passed by the general court in the year nineteen hundred and fifty-three, entitled 'An Act providing for a five day work week for members of the police department of the town of Nahant', be accepted?" If a majority of votes in answer to said question is in the affirmative, then this act shall take full effect, but not otherwise. Approved February 5, 1953.
