Chap. 845. the governor. He shall receive a salary not exceeding fifteen thousand dollars, and shall devote his full time during business hours to the duties of his office. He shall give bond with sureties in the sum of ten thousand dollars, to be approved by the state treasurer, for the faithful performance of his duties. Section 21. Section 1 of chapter 27 of the General Laws is hereby amended by striking out the fourth sentence, as appearing in section 1 of chapter 770 of the acts of 1955, and inserting in place thereof the following sentence: — Upon the expiration of the term of office of a commissioner, his successor shall be appointed by the governor for a term coterminous with that of the governor. Section 22. Section 1 of chapter 28 of the General Laws, as appearing in the Tercentenary Edition, is hereby amended by striking out the second sentence and inserting in place thereof the following sentence: — Upon the expiration of the term of office of a commissioner or associate commissioner, his successor shall be appointed by the governor for a term coterminous with that of the governor. Section 23. Section 7 of chapter 4 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after clause Sixth the following clause: — Sixth A, "Coterminous", shall mean, when applied to the term of office of a person appointed by the governor, the period from the date of appointment and qualification to the end of the term of said governor; provided that such person shall serve until his successor is appointed and qualified; and provided, further, that the governor may remove such person at any time, subject however to the condition that if such person receives notice of the termination of his appointment he shall have the right, at his request, to a hearing within thirty days from receipt of such notice at which hearing the governor shall show cause for such removal, and that during the period following receipt of such notice and until final determination said person shall receive his usual compensation but shall be deemed suspended from his office. Section 24. Section fourteen of this act shall take effect on January seventh, nineteen hundred and seventy-one. Approved January 2, 1968. Chap. 845. An Act making corrective changes in the law providing FOR THE INCORPORATION OF THE INHABITANTS OF THE TOWN OF METHUEN AS A CITY. Be it enacted, etc., as follows: Section 1. Chapter 712 of the acts of 1967 is hereby amended by striking out section 7 and inserting in place thereof the following section:— Section 7. Vacancies in the city council shall, except as provided in section twenty-nine, be filled by the remaining members thereof for the remainder of the unexpired term from among the registered voters of the city. Section 2. Section 49 of said chapter 712 is hereby amended by striking out, in line 7, the word "six" and inserting in place thereof the word: •— five. Section 3. This act shall take effect as of the date of the passage of chapter seven hundred and twelve of the acts of nineteen hundred and sixty-seven. Approved January 2, 1968.
