Chap. 62. An Act further regulating the compensation for OVERTIME SERVICE BY CERTAIN OFFICERS OR MEMBERS OF FIRE FIGHTING FORCES OF CITIES AND TOWNS. Be it enacted, etc., as follows: Chapter 48 of the General Laws is hereby amended by striking out section 58C, as amended by chapter 368 of the acts of 1968, and inserting in place thereof the following section: — Section 58C. If an officer or member of the fire fighting force of the fire department of a city or town shall bo required to be on duty for any period in excess of his regular hours of duty as from time to time established, he may be given time off equal to such period of overtime duty or, if time off cannot be given by reason of a personnel shortage or other cause, he may be paid for such period of overtime duty at such an hourly rate as may be determined by the authority in charge of a fire department, which rate shall in no event be less than one and one half of the basic hourly rate of his regular compensation for his average weekly hours of regular duty. An Act providing additional funds for the suitable RECOGNITION OF THOSE RESIDENTS OF MASSACHUSETTS WHO SHALL HAVE SERVED IN THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES DURING THE VIETNAM CONFLICT. Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to immediately provide additional funds for suitable recognition of certain Massachusetts residents upon their honorable discharge or release from duty in the armed forces of the United States during the hostilities in Vietnam, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience. Be it enacted, etc., as follows: Section 1. In anticipation of the issue of bonds authorized m section two of this act, the state treasurer may borrow, from time to time on the credit of the commonwealth, such sums of money as may be necessary for the purpose of meeting payments authorized by chapter six hundred and forty-six of the acts of nineteen hundred and sixty-eight and may issue and renew, as hereinafter provided, notes of the commonwealth therefor, beaiing interest payable at such times and at such rates as shall be fixed by the state treasurer Such notes shall be
