Chap. 0026 An Act providing for the appointment of the city solicitor of the city of haverhill by the mayor of said city without the approval of the municipal council thereof. Be it enacted, etc., as follows: Section 1. The mayor of the city of Haverhill shall, annually in the month of January, without the approval of the municipal council, appoint a city solicitor, who shall hold his office for the term of one year and until the qualification of his successor; provided, that he may be removed at any time by the mayor. Section 2. So much of chapter sixty-one of the acts of eighteen hundred and sixty-nine, especially section fourteen thereof, and acts in amendment thereof and in addition thereto, as is inconsistent with this act is hereby repealed. Section 3. This act shall be submitted for acceptance to the qualified voters of the city of Haverhill at the annual municipal election in the current year in the form of the following question, which shall be placed upon the official ballot to be used in said city at said election:- "Shall an act of the General Court passed in the current year, entitled 'An Act providing for the appointment of the city solicitor of the city of Haverhill by the mayor of said city without the approval of the municipal council thereof, be accepted?" If a majority of the voters voting thereon vote in the affirmative in answer to said question, then this act shall thereupon take full effect, but not otherwise. Approved February 12, 1945.
