Chap. 0597 An Act to encourage and promote the building and use of tuberculosis hospitals in cities and towns. Be it enacted, etc., as follows: Section 1. Every city or town which establishes and maintains a tuberculosis hospital shall be entitled to receive from the commonwealth a subsidy of five dollars per week for each patient who is unable to pay for his support, or whose kindred bound by law to maintain him are unable to pay for the same, but the city or town shall not become entitled to this subsidy unless, upon examination authorized by the trustees of hospitals for consumptives, the sputum of such patients be found to contain bacilli of tuberculosis, and unless the hospital be subject to the inspection of, and be approved by, said trustees. Section 2. Said trustees of hospitals for consumptives shall certify in the ease of each hospital approved by them as provided in the preceding section the number of patients for whom the city or town is entitled to the subsidy, and upon such certification the subsidy shall be paid from the treasury of the commonwealth in the same manner in which other claims against the commonwealth are paid. Section 3. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
