Orange 177 --Caption title. Width of road: 27 ft. Traveled way: width 27 ft., grade 1 ft. per 100. Surface: Flat, slopes to left, left side 8 in. lower than right. Uneven, soft, loose sand and stones 6 in. deep material: sand and gravel on coarse gravel base sides: right, slopes up from edge of travelled way, left, slopes up from gutter gutters: right, none, left, 9 in. deep sidewalks: right, none, left, none. Remarks: Road is soft in some places and hard in others, making a very rough road. One hole at right in foreground is 11 in. deep and hard surface is just this side of it. Photograph accompanies the Report of the Commission to Improve the Highways of the Commonwealth, 1893.
