Springfield 78 --Caption title. Width of road: 30 ft. Traveled way: width 25 ft., grade 0 ft. per 100. Surface: crowned 3 in., soft sandstone dust 2 in. deep material: sandstone on gravel base sides: right, grass bank slopes down to gutter, left, grass bank slopes up then down gutters: right, 4 ft. deep, left, 3 in. deep sidewalks: right, none, left, none. Remarks: Good road, but for sandstone dust on top. Photograph accompanies the Report of the Commission to Improve the Highways of the Commonwealth, 1893.
