Newton 8 --Caption title. Width of road: 58 ft. Traveled way: width 34 ft., grade 2 ft. per 100. Surface: crowned 4 in., rough, muddy material: loamy gravel and is badly worn sides: right, grass bank slopes down into gutter, left, grass bank slopes down into gutter gutters: right, 4 ft. wide 2 ft. deep, left, 4 ft. wide 2 ft deep sidewalks: right, 8 ft. wide 2 1/4 ft. higher than gutter, left, 8 ft. wide 2 1/4 ft. higher than gutter. Remarks: a fair road, needs re-surfacing. Photograph accompanies the Report of the Commission to Improve the Highways of the Commonwealth, 1893.
