Brookfield 47 --Caption title. Width of road: 40 ft. Traveled way: width 30 ft., grade 10 ft. per 100. Surface: flat, uneven, soft with loose sand and stones 3 in. deep material: sand with small per cent. of gravel sides: right, grass embankment slopes up, left, grass embankment slopes up gutters: right, 3 in. deep, left, 5 in. deep sidewalks: right, none, left, none. Remarks: A very hard road to haul a load over. Photograph accompanies the Report of the Commission to Improve the Highways of the Commonwealth, 1893.
