Hinsdale 111 --Caption title. Width of road: 14 ft. Traveled way: width 12 ft., grade 10 ft. per 100. Surface: crowned 4 in., uneven, soft with loose sand and stones, ruts 5 in. deep material: sand with a little coarse gravel sides: right, grass embankment slopes up from gutter, left, grass embankment slopes up from gutter gutters: right, 7 in. deep, left, 9 in. deep sidewalks: right, none, left, none. Remarks: Picture was taken just after a rain, so road is in its best condition. Photograph accompanies the Report of the Commission to Improve the Highways of the Commonwealth, 1893.
