Athol 179 --Caption title. Width of road: 25 ft. Traveled way: width 18 ft., grade 3 ft. per 100. Surface: crowned 6 in., soft, loose sand and gravel 3 in. deep material: sand and gravel on gravel base sides: right, slopes up from gutter, left, slopes down into gutter gutters: right, 11 in. deep, left, 14 in. deep sidewalks: right, none, left, none. Remarks: Road would be good if it was not for loose sand on top. Photograph accompanies the Report of the Commission to Improve the Highways of the Commonwealth, 1893.
