West Springfield 81 --Caption title. Width of road: 60 ft. Traveled way: width 26 ft., grade 1 ft. per 100. Surface: crowned 11 in., hard and smooth, with a few loose stones material: hard gravel sides: right, slight grass slope down for 3 ft. then down steep, left, slight grass slope down for 3 ft. then down steep gutters: right, at bottom of slope 5 ft. deep, left, at bottom of slope 5 ft. deep sidewalks: right, none, left, none. Remarks: A good, hard, smooth road with little labor expended. Photograph accompanies the Report of the Commission to Improve the Highways of the Commonwealth, 1893.
