Charlmont 146 --Caption title. Width of road: 9 ft. Traveled way: width 9 ft., grade 10 ft. per 100. Surface: flat, soft with loose sand 3 in. deep material: sand on gravel base sides: right, slopes up natural slope, left, rises up 6 in., then slopes down gutters: right, none, left, natural slope sidewalks: right, none, left, none. Remarks: Sides being higher than travelled way, prevent water from draining off of surface. Photograph accompanies the Report of the Commission to Improve the Highways of the Commonwealth, 1893.
