Acton 212 --Caption title. Width of road: 25 ft. Traveled way: width 17 ft., grade 5 ft. per 100. Surface: crowned 3 in., soft, loose gravel, dust 2 in. deep material: gravel sides: right, slopes down to gutter, then up, left, slopes down to gutter gutters: right, 14 in. deep, left, 10 in. deep sidewalks: right, none, left, none. Remarks: Good road but for loose dust on surface. In September 1892 the crust broke through and a heavily loaded team sunk in coarse sand to hubs. Photograph accompanies the Report of the Commission to Improve the Highways of the Commonwealth, 1893.
