Russell 91 --Caption title. Width of road: 18 ft. Traveled way: width 15 ft., grade 5 ft. per 100. Surface: 3 in. lower in centre than sides, soft, loose sand and gravel, badly washed material: sand and gravel on rubble stone bed sides: right, grass bank slopes up then down, left, grass bank slopes up then down gutters: right, 3 in. deep, left, none sidewalks: right, none, left,none. Remarks: Travelled way being lower in centre, surface water runs down it and does not drain off. Photograph accompanies the Report of the Commission to Improve the Highways of the Commonwealth, 1893.
