Phillipston 181 --Caption title. Width of road: 18 ft. Traveled way: width 18 ft., grade 3 ft. per 100. Surface: flat, soft, loose sand and gravel with ruts 14 in. deep material: sand, with very small per cent. of gravel sides: right, grass bank slopes up, left, grass bank slopes up gutters: right, none, left, none sidewalks: right, none, left, none. Remarks: Sand is so deep that road is almost impassable to a heavily loaded team. Photograph accompanies the Report of the Commission to Improve the Highways of the Commonwealth, 1893.
