Pittsfield 119 --Caption title. Width of road: 20 ft. Traveled way: width 12 ft., grade 1 ft. per 100. Surface: flat, uneven, soft with loose gravel and large stones material: coarse gravel, hard where it has been worn sides: right, slopes down into gutter, left, slopes down into gutter then up gutters: right, 6 in. deep, left, 1 ft. deep sidewalks: right, none, left, none. Remarks: Gravel has been dumped on, then levelled off, and left to be worn down by traffic. Photograph accompanies the Report of the Commission to Improve the Highways of the Commonwealth, 1893.
