Leicester 40 --Caption title. Width of road: 45 ft. Traveled way: width 33 ft., grade 0 ft. per 100. Surface: flat, uneven, soft with loose sand 3 1/2 in. deep, unpaved car tracks on left, rails above surface material: sand with large stones sides: right, grass embankment slopes up 3 ft. then level, left, slopes up natural slope gutters: right, none, left, none sidewalks: right, none, left, none. Remarks: Very poor road, with deep sand and no drainage. Photograph accompanies the Report of the Commission to Improve the Highways of the Commonwealth, 1893.
