Chap. 0007 an act placing under the civil service laws the office of chief of police of the town of north andover. Be it enacted, etc., as follows: Section 1. The office of chief of police of the town of North Andover shall, upon the effective date of this act, become subject to the civil service laws and rules and regulations relating to police officers in towns, and the tenure of office of any incumbent thereof shall be unlimited, subject, however, to said laws, but Alfred H. McKee, the present incumbent of said office, may continue to serve as such without taking a civil service examination. Section 2. This act shall be submitted to the voters of said town at the annual town meeting in the current year in the form of the following question, which shall be placed upon the official ballot to be used for the election of town officers at said meeting: "Shall an act passed by the General Court in the year nineteen hundred and thirty-seven, entitled 'An Act placing under the civil service laws the office of chief of police of the town of North Andover', be accepted?" If a majority of the votes in answer to said question is in the affirmative, then this act shall thereupon take effect, but not otherwise. Approved January 27, 1987.
