Chap. 0001 AN ACT FOR ANNEXING CERTAIN LANDS, LYING IN THE TOWN OF BELCHERSTOWN* IN THE COUNTY OF HAMPSHIRE, WITH THE INHABITANTS THEREON, TO THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, IN THE SAME COUNTY.


Whereas it has been represented to this court, by a number of the Preamble, inhabitants of that part of the town of Beleherstown lying east of the west branch of Swift River, and south of Pelharn, that it is with great difficulty they enjoy town privileges there, and that they can more commodiously enjoy such privileges in the town of Greenwich; and the said town of Belehersto[?c]n having consented that the inhabitants aforesaid should be annexed to Greenwich, the town of Greenwich has consented to receive them, -
Be it therefore enacted by the Governor, Council and House of Representatives,
[Sect. 1.] That all the lands in Beleherstown, in the county of Lands annexed Hampshire, lying east of the west branch of Swift River, and south t0 Greenwich-of Pelham, be and hereby are annexed to the town of Greenwich, in the same county, together with all the inhabitants that now do, or that shall hereafter, dwell thereon ; who hereby are and shall be subjected to do duty and intitled to receive privilege equal with other inhabitants of the said town of Greenwich, to all intents and purposes whatsoever.
And be it further enacted,
[Sect. 2.]   That the inhabitants annexed as aforesaid, shall pay f(tm)ponion of their proportion of all such province, county,and town, taxes as are paa^ 0 already set on them by the town of Beleherstown, in like manner as though this act had not been made.
Provided, also, -
And be it further enacted,
[Sect. 3.]   That the bridge over the west branch of Swift River, Brij^eow ^ in the county road, be maintained, repair[e]d and rebuilt, from time to be maintai^ time, as there shall be occasion, equally,at the expence of Greenwich and Beleherstown.   [Passed June 22f ; published July 5.
* As originally engrossed, the name was Belcherstpn; but this was changed to Beleherstown, by inserting "• w," with a caret, apparently in the handwriting of Gov. Hutchinson, wherever the name occurs in the engrossment.
